Apple delays iPhone 12 mass production

iphone 12 production delay

It seems even Apple isn’t able to escape the knock-on effects that COVID-19 is having on the entire world with reports circulating that the iPhone 12, due to be announced and shipped in September, could be delayed due to supply chain problems. These rumours suggest that while there will be a delay, it is currently only likely to span around a month, so those of you eager to get your hands on the latest iPhone iteration won’t have to wait too long.

There are suggestions however that even if manufacturing is delayed, Apple could still release the iPhone 12 in time due to mass production starting as early as July, meaning they could hit the launch window. On the other hand, this pandemic still begs the question of how much stock Apple is likely to have, potentially having big shortages come Christmas time.

This isn’t new territory for Apple with previous production delays occurring back in September 2017 and 2018 in which multiple variants of the iPhone had shortages for months on end. The iPhone X at that time didn’t hit retail stores until November and the iPhone XR, due to release in the usual September window, had LCD production issues and was later released in October.

Will this impact Apple in terms of handset sales? Most definitely not. They may even see an increase in preorders due to this news and for those who buy the newest tech to sell on at a premium, could be lining their pockets even more than usual.

Do you think Apple is going to make the release window for the iPhone 12? Or will the continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic potentially push the shipping of these phones back until the new year? Let’s see how it all unfolds.
