The Galaxy Z Flip3 5G Bespoke Edition is here alongside other fashion statements

A well designed handset with questionable additions

The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Part Two event has been and gone, but it’s left us with a surprise announcement of Samsungs latest foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G Bespoke Edition. Samsung put a big emphasis on customization and fashion today, with both the Samsung Z Flip3 Bespoke Studio and the Galaxy Watch 4 Bespoke Studio going live today on Samsung.com. With the bespoke studio, you can pick custom front and pack plates and black or silver folding spines, there are over 49 color combinations altogether, and it’s $100 extra for the privilege.

It’s worth noting that the Bespoke Upgrade Care Program, Samsung allows users to change their handset colors due to the Flip3 evolving with your style, apparently. The good news is that it does come with a year worth of Samsung care+, which includes accidental damage. It’s free which is good, but you’re also paying an extra $100 for a handset that already exists.

There was also the Galaxy Watch 4 Bespoke Studio announcement, which allows users to customize their watch casing and straps. Speaking of Galaxy Watch 4, there’s a limited edition model coming in partnership with French design brand and record label, Maison Kitsuné. The designs are subtle, especially with the included Galaxy Buds 2, which features the two-part Fox design. If you are into it, it’s going to be worthwhile I suppose.

Although we knew Samsung would fluff this event up a bit somewhat to make sure they were in the public consciousness amidst the exciting Google and Apple announcements, it really wasn’t needed. Great, you can now order a custom handset for $100 more, but wouldn’t most users buy a case for a handset anyway?

One UI 4 also got its moment in the spotlight, although its custom color user interface is actually thanks to Android 12’s Material You features, not Samsung. They failed to mention this in the presentation which was filled with multiple pats on the back for creating technology that communicates with each other, like every other smart device and brand.

They are obviously looking to take a share of a multiple device ecosystem that Google and Apple enjoy with a fashion twist, but today’s event felt quite forced. In terms of actual new products and tech for Christmas and 2022, there was nothing noteworthy to take from the Samsung Unpacked Part Two event bar an expensive colorfully handset alternative, and a Fox running across the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Buds 2.

Oh sorry, there’s a Maison Kitsuné theme available for Galaxy handsets too. But seriously, if you are looking into buying a Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, over the standard model and get yourself a lovely protective case instead. They’re far more creative and actually serve a purpose, such as this handbag one.
