That’s right iPhone fans, iOS 15.0.2 is now available to the public which addressed the CVE-2021-30883 security vulnerability. As is the standard for a new operating system, iOS 15 has so far received two point updates addressing bugs and fixes of the iOS 15 vanilla release.

iOS 15.0.2 Update Release Notes (CVE-2021-30883 Vulnerability)

We’re still waiting on some big features to drop on an iOS 15 release, such as SharePlay that’s only available by signing up to Apples Beta Program (Find out how to get on it here). iOS 15.0.2 fixes bugs and errors primarily alongside a security exploit (CVE-2021-30883). Apparently, this is currently being executed on iOS 15.0.1, so make sure to update as soon as possible.

CVE-2021-30883 concerns the ‘IOMobileFrameBuffer’ component and may allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple hasn’t disclosed specific details about CVE-2021-30883, which ensures hackers don’t weaponize the vulnerability on a larger scale.

Here are the release notes:

  • Photos saved to your library from Messages could be deleted after removing the associated thread or message
  • iPhone Leather Wallet with MagSafe may not connect to Find My
  • AirTag might not appear in the Find My Items tab
  • CarPlay may fail to open audio apps or disconnect during playback
  • Device restore or update may fail when using Finder or iTunes for iPhone 13 models

iOS 15.0.2 Known Issues

iOS 15.0.2 has fixed a few lingering issues from the vanilla iOS 15 release, however, some bugs still remain. Whilst we’re yet to come across anything new, here’s what’s on Apples ‘to-do’ list:

  • Facebook Messenger videos flicker during playback.
  • Notifications not working for many apps in iOS 15!
  • iPhone touchscreen issues
  • Widgets turn white or black on Home Screen and become unresponsive.
  • MagSafe wallet still can’t be added to Find My without using a complicated workaround.
  • iPhone storage calculation bug not fixed.

Looking at the update overall, it certainly fixes a lot of issues and causes next to none. Let’s hope we get some long-awaited features that are currently in beta on the next public release. For all the latest on iOS, make sure to keep an eye out on our iOS and News hubs.
