Apple’s macOS Monterey arrives October 25th, features to launch later

macOS' most exciting tricks are staying away for now

Not announced at Apple’s Unleashed event was macOS Monterey leaving beta on October 25th. This version of macOS follows on from the large departure of style among OSX, bringing a more unified look to the iOS and macOS experiences, especially as the Apple Silicon has now pretty much unified the entire ecosystem together in some capacity.

The major features that were touted earlier this year when Monterey was announced for the first time won’t be arriving until ‘later this fall’, leaving Universal Control and SharePlay in the lurch that little bit longer.

SharePlay allows iOS and macOS users to share their videos with anyone, almost anywhere on supported devices, while Universal Control combines the multiple OS’s that can then be all controlled via a singular mouse. The major changes to Safari were removed during the beta.

macOS Monterey will support pretty much all devices from 2015 onwards, including the late 2015 iMac and late 2014 Mac Mini.

  • Mac Mini (late 2014 onwards)
  • MacBook Pro (early 2015 onwards)
  • MacBook Air (early 2015 onwards)
  • MacBook (2016 onwards)
  • iMac (late 2015 onwards)
  • iMac Pro (2017 onwards)
  • Mac Pro (2013 onwards)
