Why RAM is important to gaming performance

Touching more on why a good RAM kit is important for gaming performance, there are a number of reasons why you not only need high quality memory but also the correct speeds to increase FPS.

First off, the way RAM works while gaming is when your game is stored on your storage device, your PC automatically transfers the game’s information into RAM to load it efficiently. This, therefore, means that you’ll need a decent amount of RAM installed (usually 16GB is good enough) to get solid gaming performance. However, don’t fall into the trap of “more RAM is better” because there are other factors in play such as limitations in GPU vRAM which can hinder your efforts dramatically.

For what RAM speeds to choose when picking up some new sticks, we’d recommend doing a little research as to what is the sweet spot when pairing it with your CPU or APU. In the AMD Ryzen 5000’s case, between 3600MHz-4000MHz is that sweet spot and you’ll certainly see some gaming performance gains if you insert RAM of this ilk.

Best RAM For Ryzen 5000 APUs in 2022 (5700G, 5600G)

1
PROS
  • Aesthetically pleasing
  • Overclockable
  • Customizable RGB
CONS
  • A little pricey

T-Force RAM is certainly not the usual brand that you see in people’s gaming PC’s due to it simply not being the company that’s constantly being advertised by influencers but that doesn’t mean they’re not quality bits of kit. The T-Force Xtreem product line in particular is a fantastic option for those who’ve picked up a fresh 5000G from AMD and are looking to pair it with high-speed memory that has the aesthetics too.

Focusing initially on those design elements, the RGB glow that’s emitted from the RAM sticks themselves isn’t in your face and has more of a subtle light that other companies usually don’t do. This is due to the full mirror-like body of the sticks and gives it more of a premium feel. The RGB is also greatly customizable and compatible with a variety of brands’ software such as AURA Sync by ASUS and MSI Mystic Light Sync, allowing you to fine tune it to your exact liking.

The speeds you’re looking at right out the box for theT-Force are 3600MHz which is extremely solid for 5000 series chips and which some are suggesting as the optimal number. AMD Ryzen 5000 series CPUs and APUs can work with 4000MHz though, so if you want to get closer to that number, you will need to overclock this RAM.

The option we’ve listed here is a 2x8GB kit, giving you 16GB in total which is a great choice for a multitude of uses. However, if you require more, or less memory, there are different combinations available.

PROS
  • Corsair quality
  • Customizable RGB
  • Overclockable
CONS
  • Could look better

Contrary to TEAMGROUP, Corsair RAM is rife in the plethora of gaming PCs nowadays and in all honesty, for good reason. Not only have Corsair been in the PC component game since their inception, they’ve consistently added new iterations to their lines, improving them time after time. Now, when it comes to RAM in particular, the Vengeance range usually springs to mind (and we’ll talk about that later) but the Dominator line is pretty fantastic also. That’s why we think Dominator Platinum RAM should have a place on this best RAM for Ryzen 5000 APUs list.

It’s not the prettiest memory we’ve seen on the market but in the main, Corsair’s options rarely are so we can’t mark them down too much for that. What it does have is fully customizable RGB that’s vivid and ultra-bright so if that’s what you’re after, this amount of illumination might be right up your alley.

What the Dominator lacks in looks it makes up for in how its constructed. Corsair utilizes extreme precision through die-casting and anodization in order to create premium memory sticks that stand the test of time. Moreover, the patented DHX cooling system allows for the heatspreader to be placed directly into the PCB, which, in turn, pulls heat away from the modules and allows the sticks to stay as cool as possible even when pushing them to their limit.

Again, similar to that of the T-Force Xtreem, it does have speeds of 3600MHz which are short of that 4000MHz that AMD has said the 5000 series is capable of. But, as stated previously, it’s not really a problem and shouldn’t deter you from picking up this option as best RAM for Ryzen 5000 APUs.

3
PROS
  • High speed
  • Robust
CONS
  • Expensive
  • Could look garish for some

If you’re looking for the flashiest RAM kit in the West, look no further than the G.Skill Trident Z Royal Series. These sticks bring a whole new level of bling with their mirrored sides diamond-like tops that allow the RGB to shine through, illuminating your build while oozing expensive in the process.

Without focusing too much on the shiny, the RAM itself performs fantastic when paired with Ryzen 5000 APU. First off, it runs at 4000MHz speeds right out the box without you having to tinker with any overclocking settings. This also means that there’s less of a chance of any overheating occurring as you’re not pushing it as far as others. If you do want to push it even further than the 4000MHz you can do, probably taking your performance levels to new heights.

This kit we’re recommending is a 16GB (2x8GB) variant but G.Skill do offer up other options so if you’re looking for even more memory capacity you can do. There are also other speeds available too so if you’d rather go for a 3600MHz kit for example, you can.

4
PROS
  • A long term staple in the industry
  • Overclockable
  • Low profile
CONS
  • Could look better
  • No RGB

A staple in the PC building scene, the Corsair Vengeance RAM kits are still going strong and as a surprise to some, is still up there as one of the best RAM for Ryzen 5000 APU picks.

Simply looking at the Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM sticks, you won’t get the premium vibe with no RGB and more ‘boring’ looks which could be a downside to those wanting to add more illumination to their build. However, if fancy lighting isn’t your thing and value function over aesthetics, the Vengeance might be just what you need. The sticks are also very low profile too, so if you’re after a more compact build this could be a solid solution to that.

Again, we’ve opted for the 3600MHz memory speed as our selection here as it’s a little less expensive and you can overclock it if you’d like. But, Corsair does produce various different memory speeds for the Vengeance line so if you want faster or slower RAM, you do have the option to pick that up instead.

How much RAM do I need for Ryzen APU?

For Ryzen APUs and gaming PCs in general, we think that the sweet spot for the amount of RAM you need is 16GB. This is because that even though in most cases more RAM is better, the games of today simply don’t need that. 16GB is plenty good enough with even the most demanding games not needing that to perform at the highest graphical levels.

Don’t get us wrong though, you can install a 32GB RAM kit to pair with one of these new 5000 series APUs for future-proofing purposes and you’ll be good to go for years to come.

Is 3200MHz RAM good?

If 3200MHz RAM is good is a question that has many factors that need to be taken into consideration and the answer will change depending on what setup you’re working with. It’ll also change on what you’re using 3200MHz RAM for. Is it for gaming? Content creation? Streaming? Each of these warrants different answers.

However, if we were trying to give you some semblance of an answer, 3200MHz is a good choice overall. It’s a solid speed that’ll do the job in most cases but if you want optimal gaming performance, especially for Ryzen, bumping that up to 3600MHz or 4000MHz is probably a wise choice.

Our Verdict

Well, we’ve come to the end of this guide but which is the best RAM for Ryzen 5000 APUs? We think that TEAMGROUP T-Force Xtreem 3600MHz 16GB is the optimal choice. This is down to the fact it’s been incredibly designed from the core outward, making the sticks durable, perform exceptionally, and look very aesthetically pleasing.

Out of the box you are looking at 3600MHz speeds though which means if you don’t want to do any tinkering to get closer to that 4000MHz AMD has enabled on 5000 series chips you might be a bit disappointed. However, if you’re not bothered about that, this certainly shouldn’t be taken as a drawback for this beset RAM for Ryzen 5000 APU pick.
