The AMD August 2022 event, aptly coined “together we advance_PCs,” was filled with interesting new insights into Ryzen 7000 series CPUs and AM5 socket features.
With the aid of AMD’s David McAfee, AMD voiced all of the main designs now underpinning the AM5 platform, most prominent among them being DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 compatibility.
AM5 sockets will also utilize a far beefier headroom of up to 230W power delivery potentials and will support AM4 coolers, making upgrading all the more streamlined.
McAfee also drew the curtain off AM5 motherboards, shining the spotlight on the firm’s X and B variants. On main display were the X670 and X670E “Extreme” AM5 motherboards, which are intended for more overclocking and higher-end performance needs, like the ASUS ROG Crosshair shown amid Computex 2022.
AMD’s X series of AM5 motherboards are slated for release in September.
McAfee described the B variant of AM5 mobos as striking the “balance of enabling next-generation technologies and great value for the end user.” AMD’s AM5 B variant motherboards are set for an October release date.
Of main intrigue was the introduction of the rumored B650E “Extreme” motherboard chipset, a board that will in theory be as uncompromising as it will be somewhat affordable. These “Extreme” B series boards will leverage PCIe 5.0 graphics and storage capabilities, similar to both X variant AM5 motherboards.
This new line of “Extreme” B-series chipsets will offer consumers with less spending capacity to buy into next-gen proponents at a more reasonable price point. Vendors will also be able to offset the costs of higher-end controller sets for PCIe 5.0 laning with less expensive ones, making the new chipset an all-around win.
AMD announced at the end of the event that the Ryzen 7000 series release date is scheduled for September 27th.
