From the Nintendo Switch to Valve’s Steam Deck, handheld gaming has no sooner blossomed into its fullest potential and is sure to only expound through the aid of the Logitech G Gaming Handheld, which was announced earlier this August.
Leaked on Twitter via the likes of Evan Blass, a tech enthusiast, images of the Logitech G Gaming Handheld prove to excite through the likes of extended cloud gaming support, an easy-to-navigate UI, and a sleek design language that mirrors its Nintendo Switch counterpart.
The images appear to be marketing material, but highlighted interesting features like a microSD card expansion slot, Google Play access, Chrome, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and YouTube applications, and so much more. Blass was struck with a DMCA complaint, which means the images had to be taken down but also suggests the imaged device’s legitimacy.
Like most handhelds of a similar size and build, the Logitech G Gaming Handheld seems to feature a similar front-facing layout, with X/Y/A/B buttons on the right above the right thumbstick, opposite the D-Pad that rests below the left thumbstick. There also looks to be a yellow Logitech “G” button on the left, while the right side wields a dedicated home button.
The product itself comes from the partnership between Tencent Games and Logitech, both of which aim to deliver a Nintendo Switch-like handheld running primarily on Android. This could mean that the Logitech G Gaming Handheld will be among the first devices to leverage the Gen 1 iteration of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G3x, a chip announced in December of last year and intended for mobile Android gaming.
A teaser page of sorts already exists for the Logitech G Gaming Handheld, sporting an email subscription for those who want to stay in the know. Pricing and assorted specs still remain unknown at this time, but an official launch is slated to arrive by the end of 2022, according to Logitech.
These leaks surrounding the Logitech G Gaming Handheld come at an interesting time as the Steam Deck 2 and Nintendo Switch Pro gain renewed traction. Logitech’s device is mainly geared towards cloud-based gaming on the likes of Nvidia GeForce Now, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Steam remote play, and Google Play, so it will be interesting to see how the product fares in this handheld-drenched market.
