Last Updated on

MediaTek has announced the Filogic 380, the world’s first complete Wi-Fi 7 platform solution for smartphones, tablets, TVs, PCs, wearables, notebooks, and other consumer electronics running on MediaTek SoCs.

The company aims to have the Filogic 380 in devices vying for cutting-edge connectivity as a true replacement for wired connections at home, the office, and industrial networks for applications such as cloud gaming, 4K video calls, 8K video streaming, and multiplayer AR/VR.

MediaTek Filogic 380’s Out-Of-The-Box Optimization

MediaTek Filogic 380 Chip Promises Next-Gen Wi-Fi 7 Connectivity

Described as a single-chip 6nm Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 combo, the Filogic 380 is designed to deliver fast and reliable connectivity ‘out-of-the-box.’  MediaTek explains that factory optimization of the Filogic 380 will streamline design and manufacturing, taking a substantial chunk out of the usual time-to-market.

Under the hood, the chip employs the 6nm production process for superb power efficiency, a system control/IO processor with on-chip memory, along with PCIe 4.0 and USB 3.0 connectivity options.

The MediaTek Filogic 380 features dual concurrent 2×2 capability for dual-band simultaneous operation and support for leading Wi-Fi 7 tech like 4096-QAM, 320MHz, MRU, and MLO. MLO is capable of speeds up to 6.5 Gbps, while single-channel speed support extends to 5 Gbps, The chip uses 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands.

Bluetooth

On the Bluetooth side, the MediaTek Filogic runs an extra receiver antenna with Multiple Receive Combining to up range and performance. Siding this is High Data Throughput support to boost speeds further.

Lastly, it features Bluetooth LE Audio to pair with wireless headsets to deliver consistent, low latency, and high-quality stereo audio. The chip’s advanced Bluetooth/Wi-Fi coexistence technology guarantees the two standards can co-exist seamlessly, free of interference or connectivity issues.

MediaTek has yet to share availability or pricing details, though we’ll likely see the tech in action before long as Wi-Fi 7 gains momentum and is adopted in more everyday consumer products.
