The first digital watch, the Hamilton Watch Company ‘Pulsar’, debuted in 1972, which was followed up by the Pulsar NL C01 in 1982 which could store 24 digits. Why are we telling you all this? These two watches laid the foundation for the contemporary smartwatches we all wear today, although their memory could hold little over 20 digits at the time.

As time went by, toy and watch manufacturers messed around with the idea of computer watches, but they couldn’t quite hit the nail on the head practically.
Fast forward to 2006, Sony Ericsson and Fossil launched the MBW-100, the first digital watch to connect to a handset via Bluetooth and to show call and message notifications. Although the device flopped due to exclusivity, Sony then decided to make failure lightning strike twice with Sony Ericsson LiveView, an external Bluetooth display for Android smartphones.
