This Fall’s anticipated debut of the Apple Watch Series 8 may bring fresh and intriguing features to Apple’s well-liked wearable.
The specifications of this new device are the subject of some rumors. According to this speculation, the Apple Watch Series 8 may be the first with a temperature sensor and the first offering a new “Pro” model.
Along with the iPhone 14 and AirPods Pro 2, we anticipate the Apple Watch Series 8 release date (plus that of the Series 8 Pro, and a new Apple Watch SE) to be this fall. Let’s go through what we know about the eighth-generation Apple Watch.
Apple Watch Series 8 release date
Apple should reveal the iPhone 14 family and Apple Watch 8 in September. This matches with the past Apple Watch release and fits within the customary Apple Watch announcement window.
Generally, between the 10th and the 15th of September, Apple makes its Series announcements for the Apple Watch. However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported September 7 could be the date.
This usually ties into announcements for the new iPhone series and new iOS. So we expect this device’s eighth generation will also be released around the same time.
Price
There shouldn’t be any doubts about the cost of the Apple Watch 8. Since the Watch Series 5, Apple has put its products into a pricing trend unlikely to change in 2022.
Since 2019 all Apple Watch models have had the same starting price, which is $399 for the base GPS-only model and $499 for the base GPS + cellular model. The apparent exception is the Apple Watch SE, but since it’s a different device, its lower pricing is justified.
As a result, we don’t anticipate any deviations from this pattern: the Apple Watch 8 will probably start at $399, and the GPS+cellular version will likely cost $499.
Design
According to the latest information from leaker ShrimpApplePro, there is a high probability that the Apple Watch Series 8 will include a flat front glass display.
Furthermore, display analyst Ross Young predicts that Apple Watch Series 8 will have a bigger display. The 45mm Apple Watch Series 7 has a diagonal display size of 1.901 inches, while the Apple Watch Series 8 apparently features a diagonal display size of 1.99 inches.
The rugged model
According to Mark Gurman, Apple is developing an “extreme sports” version of the Apple Watch with a bigger screen and a metal case that can withstand more damage.
Additionally, it will have a screen area around seven percent larger than the 45mm Apple Watch Series 7 and a 410×502 pixel display. Gurman hypothesizes that Apple may display more fitness metrics using the additional display space on the Apple Watch.
Apple’s new watch will have increased impact resistance and protection too, owing to the new titanium alloy – albeit it’s unknown what the company will name this model.
Still, it will include a bigger battery and a screen that is more resistant to breaking, allowing longer training sessions. More expensive than the present Apple Watch models, the higher-end variant may cost somewhere about $900.
Apple Watch Series 8 – Chip
According to Gurman, the S8 chip in the Apple Watch Series 8 will have identical characteristics to the S7 chip. Therefore, there won’t be any significant gains in speed or effectiveness. Instead, Apple Watch models from 2023 will have a brand-new chipset.
New low-power mode
We anticipate the same battery life because Series 8 is expected to have a CPU similar to Series 7. On the other hand, Apple may provide a new low-power mode to the Series 8 as a separate upgrade, so as to extend battery life.

New sensors
The Wall Street Journal and other sources claim that Apple is creating several new health capabilities for the next Apple Watch models. These include diabetes diagnosis, sleep apnea detection, sleep tracking using a thermometer, and blood pressure monitoring.
Although it is unclear whether all of these sensors are available, Apple may include some of these functions in the Apple Watch Series 8. However, Apple may also decide to postpone some features until later.
Temperature sensor
The new Apple Watch may have a basic body temperature sensor. However, future iterations of the Apple Watch could tell whether a user’s body temperature is higher than usual, although it is unlikely to provide a precise reading.
Sleep Apnea
It’s unclear if Apple will offer the blood oxygen sensor-based sleep apnea detection function because it’s difficult to take many measurements without considerably depleting the battery.
Car crash detector
For the iPhone and Apple Watch, Apple is creating a crash detection tool that may debut in 2022. When a car collision occurs, it will employ sensors like the accelerometer to measure a surge in gravitational force.
The iPhone or Apple Watch would immediately contact emergency services to request assistance when a car collision is detected. Apple may have created this feature for the iPhone 14 models and the Apple Watch Series 8 because it is scheduled for release in 2022, although it is unlikely to be restricted to those models alone.
Will upgrading to the Apple Watch Series 8 be worthwhile?
It’s still too early to determine whether to purchase the new Apple Watch, and we’ll wait for more information rather than rumors.
However, at this point, the watch appears worth purchasing if the price remains the same and it receives the anticipated enhancements.
