Rumors abound as to the RTX 4000 series release date, schedule, and specs.
While we don’t officially know when we may see an RTX 4000 card release, or what they may look like in terms of performance, we’re keeping on top of the information out there. Here’s everything we know so far, and what we may expect.

NVidia RTX 4000 series expected release dates
There’s currently no official announcement from NVidia on release dates for RTX 4000 series cards. That means any dates are unconfirmed at this point, and (changing) rumored dates are to be taken as rumors.
The latest word comes from a Moore’s Law is Dead YouTube video, posted on August 3rd. The video quotes a source as saying:
“NVidia has begun sending out embargo details to their partners this week that specifically denotes a plan to launch in October, but final plans are not decided yet.”
A further source states:
“Actually there’s a suggestion that more than the 4090 could launch this year”.
Twitter leaker @greymon55, who has also commented on socket AM5 and Zen 4 CPUs release dates, has had a say. In July they suggested cards using the AD102 GPU will announce in September and launch in October. AD102 in the RTX 4000 series is believed to be the RTX 4090…and potentially a SKU above that too (an RTX 4090Ti?).
Greymon55’s July posts suggest only the AD102 (RTX 4090) will launch in 2022, at stock, with other cards not arriving until 2023.
In a July 15th video from the Moore’s Law is Dead YouTube channel, the RTX 4000 launch date is reported as October, with proper card volume and availability arriving later. October 2020 did see the release of the RTX 3070, so NVidia has form for October releases.
The MLID video also suggests a 600W version of the RTX 4090, which as yet has no name and is still unconfirmed – although more on this below.
RTX 4000 series delays?
Videocardz previously suggested the RTX 4090 would be the first out of the blocks in September. It was possible delays could knock back the 4080 and 4070. This may have already happened if the 4090 is the only card to release in 2022.
Undoubtedly the graphics card market could be impacting things. While previously there was a shortage of stock and high prices, now there is more stock available, and more sensible pricing too.
Practically, it makes little sense to launch a new range while there is still demand for a previous one. And why rush out a new series if you don’t need to?
We suppose one answer to that may be pressure from RDNA 3 and Intel’s ARC graphics cards – although there are ongoing pains with Arc right now.
RTX 4090 Titan, ‘The Beast’ rumors
Leaker @kopite7kimi has suggested there may be a huge RTX 4000 series card in the making, calling it “the beast”. The card, if it exists, may be an ‘RTX 4090 Titan’.
An 800W card, potentially requiring hefty PSU support, it reportedly has 18,176 CUDA cores. It seems to run on the AD-102-450-A1 GPU, featuring a massive 48GB of GDDR6X VRAM. Given the RTX 4090 is believed to be 450W at stock, an 800W card is enormous. Again though, we don’t know if this would be intended for release even if it does exist. If it does, it may be purely for engineering reasons.
NVidia RTX 4000 series specs rumors
The latest reports suggest that a proposed RTX 4070 Ti could “easily match” the performance of the RTX 3090 Ti. If true, that would show the clearest indication yet of the gains arriving with RTX 4000 series cards.
This latest leak comes via Twitter leaker @kopite7kimi, and includes specs for the card, as below:
This would mean the card would feature:
- a full-fat AD104 GPU, 7,680 CUDA cores, 12GB of GDDR6X, pegged at 21 Gbps on a 192-bit bus.
Strikingly, the card is suggested to have a 400W TDB – slightly below the RTX 3090’s 450W TDP. That will be a consideration for system builders but is in line with what has previously been suggested about RTX 4000 TDPs.
Besides any 800W ‘Titan’ card, or the ‘400W RTX 4070 Ti’ we’d expect a standard three graphics card lineup to appear initially. Estimations may be made about the performance advancements of the RTX 4000 series, but we only have leaked specs to go on so far.
Previously, @kopite7kimi has reported the following set of specs for the expected three stock cards.
From the leak, the ‘AD-103,4 and 5…’ codes are the GPU itself in use in each card. Each of those GPUs is built using the Lovelace architecture on a 5nm die. So they each support DirectX 12 Ultimate, OpenCL version 3.0, and CUDA 9.0.
Adding in the purported RTX 4070 Ti specs would apparently look like this:
- RTX 4090 – 16,384 CUDA cores, 384-bit but clocked at 21Gbps, 24GB GDDR6X, 450W
- RTX 4080 – 10,240 CUDA cores, 256-bit but clocked at 21Gbps, 16GB GDDR6X, 420W
- (RTX 4070Ti – 7,680 CUDA cores, 192-bit bus clocked at 21Gbps, 12GB GDDR6X, 400W)
- RTX 4070 – 7168 CUDA cores, 160-bit bus, clocked at 18Gbps, 10GB GDDR6, 300W
It appears that all cards will run on PCIe Gen 5.0 and require a single 16-pin power connector.
NVidia RTX 4000 series Performance rumors
As reported by Wccftech, @XpeaGPU has mentioned some initial performance indications from the RTX 4090 – or a ‘full AD102 GPU at “high-power draw”‘, potentially overclocked. The alleged gaming benchmark is from the game Control, where the 4090 seems to deliver over 160fps.
Wccftech’s Hassan Mujtaba replied to point out this would be a 2.2x gain on RTX 3090 performance. That’s massive, but also significant – there have also been reports of 2x performance in 3DMark’s Time Spy Extreme benchmark.
NVidia RTX 4000 series Pricing rumors
Another area where rumors and previous pricing are all we have to currently go on. There have been suggestions that the RTX 4090 could arrive at the same MSRP as the RTX 3090.
That would be $1499, and ideally, other cards in the RTX 4000 series would mirror previous cards too. That would be $699 for the RTX 4080 and $499 for the RTX 4070.
