Upcoming Minisforum mini-PC can support full GPU

Not so mini now

Last Updated on

Minisforum is back with another mini PC, this time with quite a large twist to it. The new B550 based system can expand outwards to include a dedicated GPU for older AMD CPUs in the AM4 category that doesn’t have an internal GPU and rely on a dedicated graphics card.

This also means that barebones variations of this PC can be equipped with both APU (5600G/5700G) and GPU for maximum performance. Minisforum won’t be including the needed external power supply, but you shouldn’t need to go over something like 600W to power the device once it’s fully extended.

The top folds out to support the GPU, which is then connected as usual to the motherboard inside. The PCIe slot is up to PCIe 3.0 16x, so you won’t be slapping in your high end 3080 into here, but maybe the lower end 30-series from NVIDIA and the latest additions to AMD’s GPU line for the budget market.

You will then place the GPU into an included support dock.

The addition of this PCIe lane changes the game on Minisforum’s mini PC range, as there’s now no need to splash out for an external GPU for those handy enough with a PC to take advantage of the full capabilities of it.

On top of this, if you are just wanting to run an APU like AMD’s 5000 series, you’ll be able to skip the power supply addon and use the included power brick.
