Apple provided a pretty hefty overhaul of iOS with iOS 15. But it’s now 2022, so what about iOS 16? With this year’s WWDC, we were treated to more information about the future with iOS 16, though we’re still left wondering about the iOS 16 release date. Here’s what we know so far, and a little bit more besides.
iOS 16 Release Date
The latest addition to the iPhone lineup is unveiled every year and with that, an update to iOS usually follows. This has been the case for a while now, benefiting users with new, exciting features to take advantage of, hopefully one-upping the likes of Android in the process. For 2022, we’re talking about the iPhone 14 series and iOS 16.
We did hope the iOS 16 release date would become a little clearer at this year’s WWDC (there’s always hope). Unfortunately, while we still don’t have a specific date we’re confident it will be September 2022 for the new iteration.
Based on the aforementioned yearly hardware refresh of Apple’s products, and an expected September iPhone 14 event – usually the first or second Tuesday of September (this year, Tuesday 6th or Tuesday 13th) – an iOS release date can usually be expected for the same month.
iOS 16 beta release date
The iOS 16 beta release date was Tuesday 12th July, having been available to developers since June 6th. The date fitted with previously suggested timeframes We predicted a Wednesday 13th release for the iOS 16 beta release date, while Mark Gurman of Bloomberg suggested the week of July 11th.
Now the iOS public beta is here, and available for download and installation, it seems Apple is on the right track to unveil the full release around the middle of September.
What’s new in iOS 16?
Obviously, before iOS 16 does fully come into effect, there’s still a lot of iOS 16 news to be looking at. While some parts of the update may be exclusive to new iPhone models arriving this year, we now know there’s plenty going on with iOS 16.
We’ve created a comprehensive list of iOS 16 features from Apple’s WWDC presentation, but we’ll be keeping an eye on the release date of the new iteration of iOS, so keep checking back!
